DEBRIEFING
UNPACK YOUR STORY AND FIND REST
Everyone who serves has a story, and much of it never makes it into the newsletter. Through Le Rucher Ministries’ Exchange at the Cross™ debriefing model, you are given time and space to look back on your journey, recognize how it has shaped you, and discover where God has been present all along.
Like the two travelers on the road to Emmaus, you do not walk alone. In a safe, confidential setting, a trained debriefer will listen to your story without judgment or evaluation, help you make sense of what you have carried, and walk with you as you bring it to Jesus. You can leave lighter and clearer, ready for the road ahead.
WHAT IS DEBRIEFING ?
Debriefing is a guided conversation that helps you reflect on and process a recent season of life and ministry. It gives you time and space to tell your story to someone who understands, to be heard without judgment, and to recognize how your experiences have affected you.
Debriefing is not counseling or therapy. As trained debriefers, we focus on your recent experiences, usually the last two to five years, rather than exploring past trauma or providing psychological treatment. If something comes up that would benefit from ongoing support, we will help you find the right next step.
Our approach follows Le Rucher Ministries’ Exchange at the Cross™ model, a proven method of helping cross-cultural workers around the world. We come alongside you in person or online, ask questions, and listen to the whole story, including the losses, the disappointments, and the things you have not yet had words for.
Whether you are finishing a term, transitioning to a new place, or coming out of a hard season, debriefing offers an unhurried pause to process what you have carried and step into what is next with clarity and renewed hope.
DEBRIEFING TYPES
IN-PERSON
Event debriefing is the process of reflecting on a significant, non-traumatic event to uncover its meaning and extract valuable insights. It provides an opportunity to process the experience, identify key takeaways, and apply those lessons to future actions or decisions.
ONLINE
The same five-day model, wherever you are. We meet once a day on Zoom or Proton Meet for debriefing and short presentations, and you spend the rest of the day processing at your own pace. We ask that you take the week off so you can step away from your responsibilities and give this time your full attention.
UNSTRUCTURED
Sometimes you just need someone to listen. Whether it’s one two-hour session or a few, we’ll give you space to process whatever is on your heart. We listen reflectively and help you notice themes and insights along the way. It isn’t counseling, just a trusted ear to hear your story.

Cross-cultural life brings joy, growth, and meaning, along with change, loss, stress, and experiences that rarely get the attention they deserve. Many people move from one demand to the next without ever stopping to look back. Debriefing is that pause.

It depends on the type of debrief you choose.
Five-Day Debriefing (In-Person or Online)
The debrief takes place over five consecutive days. Each day we spend about two to three hours together. That time includes a personal debriefing session, short presentations, and time for your questions. The rest of the day is yours to rest, reflect, and process at your own pace.Unstructured Debriefing
Sessions usually last about two hours. Some people find that one session is enough. Others prefer to meet a few times, and we can work out together what fits your needs. Before your debrief begins, we’ll agree on a schedule so you know what to expect each day.
-
We keep our costs as low as possible so that debriefing stays within reach.
Five-Day Debriefing (In-Person or Online)
$350 when paying for yourself
$500 when an organization covers it as part of its member care
Unstructured Debriefing
$35 per hour when paying for yourself
$50 per hour when an organization covers it as part of its member care
Travel and accommodation: If we come to you, or if you need housing for an in-person debrief, those costs are not included in the fee. We’ll talk through them with you and agree on them before anything is booked.
Your fee covers part of the debriefer’s time and our administrative costs. It also helps us offer debriefing to workers around the world who would otherwise have no access to it.
If cost is a barrier, please reach out anyway. If you truly need to be heard but cannot afford the fee, contact us and we will work something out together. We believe everyone deserves the chance to be heard and to process their story.

We’ve been where you are.
Our debriefers are cross-cultural workers themselves. We know the joys and the hard parts of living and serving far from home: the transitions, the losses, the conflicts, and the things that never make it into the newsletter. We often don’t need much explanation to understand what you’re describing, so you can spend your time processing instead of explaining. We’re trained and accountable.
Our debriefers are trained in established debriefing models through SeeBeyond and Le Rucher Ministries, two organizations with decades of experience caring for cross-cultural workers. Both of our debriefers are also graduate students in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and we work under the supervision of experienced professionals. Supervision keeps our practice sound and ethical. We know where debriefing ends.
Debriefing is not counseling, and we’re careful to keep that line clear. Because of our training, we can recognize when someone might benefit from more support, and we’ll help you find the right next step if that comes up.Your story stays with us.
Everything you share is held in confidence. We don’t report to your sending organization, church, supporters, or anyone else, even when an organization is paying for your debrief. Our sessions and records follow strict data protection standards. We meet you where you are.
We offer in-person, online, and unstructured debriefing, so you can choose the format that fits your season, schedule, and location. Our fees are kept as low as possible, and we never want cost to stand between you and being heard. -
Both. You can choose the format that best fits your season, schedule, and location.

Our five-day online debrief follows the same model as our in-person debrief. We meet once a day on Zoom or Proton Meet, and you spend the rest of the day processing at your own pace. We ask that you take the week off so you can give this time your full attention. Unstructured sessions can also be held online.In-Person
We are based near Bordeaux, France, and can also facilitate debriefs near Geneva, Switzerland. We can also arrange to meet you where you are.
